Effective Counseling



Despite earning four gold stars (the maximum number of gold stars he could have possibly earned) for performance, achievement and responsibility, the General Manager of the Venice, Florida Cracker Barrel restaurant called the employee in to give him the bad news: 'Joe we are going to have to let you go.'

And so, Joe Koblenzer, 73-year old Vietnam veteran--'with a heart of gold'--who had worked at the eating establishment for three-and-a-half years supplementing his Social Security income, was terminated.

His crime: giving away food to a homeless man.

But it seems not to have been his first time.

It appears Joe was a 'serial restaurant food giver away-er'...

Thus, Cracker Barrel released the following statement:

'Mr. Koblenzer has worked as a host at Cracker Barrel’s Sarasota [County] store since April 2011.

During the time he was employed, he violated the Company’s policies regarding consuming food without paying or giving away free food, on five separate occasions.

Mr. Koblenzer received multiple counselings and written warnings reminding him about the company’s polices and the consequences associated with violating them. On the fifth occasion, again per Company policy, Mr. Koblenzer was terminated.

Cracker Barrel is grateful for and honors Mr. Koblenzer's service to our country as we honor all service men and women and their families.'

But what about the counselor whom Cracker Barrel employed to counsel Joe?
Is the company still employing this ineffectively trained practitioner?

If his counselor had of been proficient in the skills of counseling, Joe would still have been in the job he dearly loved and Cracker Barrel would still have it's 'four-star meeter and greeter' serving customers in his brown and yellow apron.

Could the situation be salvaged?

Yes.

How?

Cracker Barrel could re-hire Joe, and send him to a Scientology counselor for some effective counseling.
